Tito Ortiz finally got his revenge against his old rival Chuck Liddell in their trilogy fight in California last night, knocking him out late in the first round.
Many had questioned whether it was a good idea for Liddell to return to the cage at 48-years-old after being retired for over 8 years following a series of knockout losses and in the opening minutes of the fight he looked a shadow of his former self.
The 43-year-old Ortiz quickly noticed this and soon visibly grew in confidence, leading to the fight ending sequence in the final minute of the round in which he unleashed a series of punches, with a right hand connecting flush to the face of his foe, sending him falling to the canvas in a heap.
Unfortunately Liddell then took a few unneccessary extra punches before the referee was able to intervene to stop the fight and hand Ortiz a TKO victory with 4.24mins on the clock.
The fight was hard to watch as ‘The Iceman’ clearly had no business being in the cage at this stage in his life, while Ortiz still had enough left in the locker to make him pay for it, defeating his rival for the first time and claiming his first KO victory in 12 years.
