UFC 147 Moves From Stadium To Arena In Brazil; Belfort Vs Silva II Headlines

The exact location of the UFC’s latest visit to Brazil for UFC 147 has finally been confirmed, and as anticipated it’s been downgraded from a stadium show to one that’ll be held in an arena after the original headliner featuring Anderson Silva Vs Chael Sonnen II was moved to UFC 148.

The Mineirinho Arena in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais which has a capacity of 25,000 will now host the event on June 23rd and will be headlined by current TUF: Brazil coaches Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva.

This will be the UFC’s first visit to the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, and UFC exec Marshall Zelaznik is looking forward to having the opportunity to extend their reach in the country which has arguably been the biggest success story for the company in the past 18 months.

“It is great for our fans and for the UFC to be able to stage events in new parts of Brazil,” Zelaznik said in a press release. “The UFC is exploding everywhere in the country and Minas Gerais, being the third biggest state in the country, seemed like the perfect place for this.

“Not only has Mineirinho received some major acts through the years, but it is also located in a central and touristic area of the city. It will certainly be a fantastic experience for the fans,”
