UFC 181 Bonus Awards

Following last night’s UFC 181 event in Las Vegas the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 fighter bonus awards were announced.

Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the preliminary encounter between Sergio Pettis and Matt Hobar which found Pettis in trouble early before quickly rallying and dominating the later rounds to earn a unanimous decision victory.

Earning a ‘Performance Of The Night’ was lightweight champion Anthony Pettis who, like his brother Sergio, had to suffer through early adversity as Gilbert Melendez adopted a pressure-heavy gameplan until he spotted an opportunity to pounce on a perfectly executed guillotine choke to be become the first ever fighter to tap out the former Strikeforce champion.

Josh Samman also scooped up a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus with a stunning head kick KO after being stifled on the mat for much of his bout with Eddie Gordon.

Over the years I've watched the UFC develop into the powerhouse it is today, organizations like PRIDE, Strikeforce and WEC rise and fall, and Bellator emerge as a new force on the MMA landscape. Throughout it all I've remained captivated by the sport and I'm excited to cover what comes next here on MMA Insight.
