UFC 187 Bonus Awards

There were plenty of exciting fights and performances to choose from last night as the $50,000 UFC 187 bonus awards were handed out.

Rightfully earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the one round tear-up between Andrei Arlovski and Travis Browne which saw ‘The Pitbull’ rock ‘Hapa’ multiple times before being dropped himself, then getting back up and putting more punishment on Browne to secure a rousing TKO victory.

Meanwhile the ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonuses were headed to the two champions at the top of the bill, starting with new light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier who endured being dropped by Anthony Johnson in the first round before using his world class wrestling to wear him down and eventually set up an opportunity to finish with a rear-naked choke.

In the co-main event middleweight champ Chris Weidman also had to endure adversity after being hurt by Vitor Belfort early in their title encounter, but he immediately turned the tables on his opponent with a takedown followed by vicious ground and pound to earn a first round finish.

Over the years I've watched the UFC develop into the powerhouse it is today, organizations like PRIDE, Strikeforce and WEC rise and fall, and Bellator emerge as a new force on the MMA landscape. Throughout it all I've remained captivated by the sport and I'm excited to cover what comes next here on MMA Insight.
