UFC 194: Frankie Edgar To Be Stand-In If Jose Aldo Or Conor McGregor Gets Injured

All going well Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor will finally settle their differences in the Octagon at UFC 194 in December, but if either man gets injured then the UFC already has a back-up plan ready to go.

It’s no coincidence that the man ranked No.2 in the featherweight division, Frankie Edgar happens to be fighting Chad Mendes in the main event of the TUF 22 Finale just one day earlier as according to the man himself he is the man who will replace either Aldo or McGregor if they pull out.

“If someone gets hurt I’m the guy stepping in,” Edgar revealed to UFC.ca. “And that’s from Dana White. You can print that in bold letters!”

The former UFC lightweight champion has been hounding the promotion to let him fight either Aldo or McGregor for some time now, and rightly so with four wins in a row in the division against the likes of BJ Penn, Cub Swanson and Urijah Faber meaning he’s more than qualified for the task.

It’ll no doubt give the likes of Dana White some comfort to know they’ve got Edgar on stand-by, together with the benefits of an extremely stacked card backing up the main event with the co-main event title fight between Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold being a cert to headline on any other card, while Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza Vs Yoel Romero will also be a must-see fight in the middleweight division.

Still, it’d undoubtedly be a huge letdown if the unthinkable happened and the ‘Fight Of The Year’ between Aldo and McGregor were to fall through for a second time, so let’s hope that Edgar’s services are not required on the 12th of December and we get to see him in a fascinating scrap with Mendes a day earlier instead.
