UFC 198 Bonus Awards

Stipe Miocic ufc

Following last night’s UFC 198 event in Brazil the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.

Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the preliminary card battle between Francisco Trinaldo and Yancy Medeiros which featured plenty of hard-hitting action. Most of it came from Trinaldo who had his opponent hurt on multiple occasions as he hurled heavy blows at him, but Meideros showed a tremendous chin and plenty of heart to stay in the fight and even dropped the Brazilian late in the second round with a strike of his own. It wasn’t enough to win him the fight though, with Trinaldo emerging victorious on the scorecards.

The first ‘Performance Of The Night’ award was handed to main event winner and new heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic who appeared to be coming off second best in the early striking exchanges, but when Fabricio Werdum became reckless defensively and started charging forward with punches, Miocic was able to capitalize with a counter right hook while reversing that knocked him out.

The other ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus went to Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza who was able to take down Vitor Belfort early in their co-main event encounter and rough him up with elbows, opening up a significant cut to his opponent face. ‘Jacare’ steadily moved his way to full mount and then became dropping down a sustained ground and pound assault until the referee deemed that Belfort had suffered enough, resulting in a TKO stoppage that should help Souza claim the next shot at the middleweight title.
