UFC 199 Bonus Awards

Following last night’s hugely entertaining UFC 199 event in Los Angeles the recipients of the evening’s bonus awards were announced.

Taking home ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was actually the very first bout on the card and set the tone for the whole evening as Marco Polo Reyes and ‘Maestro’ Dong Hyun Kim (no relation to ‘Stungun’) waged war back-and-forth for the best part of 15 minutes, before Reyes finally found a KO finish mid-way through the final frame.

The first ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus went to Michael Bisping for his jaw-dropping first round knockout victory over Luke Rockhold that nobody could have predicted beforehand. Bisping has been taunted about having ‘pillowfists’ for his entire UFC run, but in the biggest fight of his carer he suddenly discovered the stopping power to floor Rockhold twice in the space of a few seconds, then rendered him unconscious up against the cage to achieve his dream of winning the middleweight title.

Among a night of great fights, the other ‘Peformance Of The Night’ winner was still easy to spot, as Dan Henderson showed an incredible display of heart and will to survive almost being KO’d by Hector Lombard in the opening round of their fight, and then rallied in the second against the odds, knocking him out with a reverse elbow on the feet and then a landing a acouple of brutal ground and pound strikes before the ref stopped it. Hendo hinted at retirement after the fight, and this was the perfect win to go out on.
