Following last night’s UFC 201 event in Atlanta the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the spirited co-main event scrap between Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Rose Namajunas, which lasted the full 15 minutes.
The Polish fighter showed some excellent striking from the clinch throughout the fight, did well to consistently stuff her opponents takedowns and even showed some grappling too, en-route to a split decision victory that could now lead to a strawweight title shot.
The first ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus was handed to new welterweight champion Tyron Woodley who ended Robbie Lawler’s long unbeaten stretch with a powerful right hand that toppled ‘Ruthless’ early in the opening round, with follow-up strikes on the mat sealing a massive KO victory.
The other ‘Performance Of The Night’ award went to Jake Ellenberger who looked back to his old self as he demolished Matt Brown in the opening round of their main card encounter.
Ellenberger dropped Brown with a right hand straight down the pipe at the start of the fight, and though ‘The Immortal’ got back to his feet, Ellenberger put him back down again soon afterwards with a thudding liver kick that he couldn’t recover from, leading to a much-needed TKO victory for the under threat welterweight.
