UFC 207 To Be Mike Goldberg’s Last Event

Long-time UFC play-by-play commentator Mike Goldberg is set to leave the promotion after Friday night’s UFC 207 event.

UFC President Dana White confirmed the news at a media sit-down yesterday, though he refused to say why the veteran announcer was leaving, stating that he’d leave it up tom Goldberg to talk about it if he wanted to.

Rumors that Goldberg was going to be replaced have been swirling around for several weeks, with White even going as far as to confirm to reporters earlier this month that he was working on building a new commentary “dream team” for 2017.

At the same time, White had praised UFC color commentator Joe Rogan as the best in the business, suggesting that he was still part of his plans, but made no mention of Goldberg.

The 52 year-old Goldberg had been approaching his 20th year as the UFC’s lead play-by-play announcer and is synonymous with the promotion, but he’s also become notorious for his gaffs on the mic over the years.

At this stage White is staying tight-lipped on who he is targeting to replace Goldberg, though he did indicate to the media that it could be July before everything is finalized, which likely means that the UFC’s other main commentator, Jon Anik, will step into the role until then.
