Following last night’s UFC 251 event on Fight Island the recipients of the $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was a hotly contested rematch between Rose Namajunas and Jessica Andrade.
Namajunas demonstrated her crisp, clinical striking in the opening two rounds to largely keep Andrade at bay, but the Brazilian never stopped pressing forward and by the third round her increasing aggression was paying off as she bloodied the nose of ‘Thug’ Rose and left her eye badly swollen, while also having success with her wrestling.
However, in the end it was Namajunas who had done enough to seal a split decision victory and avenge her prior KO loss to Andrade.
The first of two ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonuses went to Davey Grant, who suffered a broken jaw early in his fight with Martin Day and then had to wait until the third round to get his revenge when he landed a big left hook for the KO victory.
Also earning a performance bonus was the debuting Jiri Prochazka, who made a big impact in the second round of his prelim-headlining fight with Volkan Oezdemir by knocking him out with a single right hand – the first time Oezdemir has been slept in his 22-fight career to date.
