Following last night’s UFC fight Night 106 event in Brazil the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
On this occasion there was no ‘Fight of The Night’ award, with the UFC opting to dish out four ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonuses instead.
As you might expect, amongst them was main event winner Kelvin Gastelum who slayed Vitor Belfort in the first round of the fight after initially dropping the veteran star with a straight left.
Belfort was able to work his way back to his feet after that, but it was long before Gastelum again landed a big left hand that sent him back to the canvas for the second time and convinced the referee that ‘The Phenom’ had taken enough punishment.
Co-Main event winner Edson Barboza was also among the bonus winners after he left it until the third round to unleash a spectacular highlight-reel finish against Beneil Dariush.
The fight had been very competitive up to that point, with Dariush’s forward pressure and solid striking making it a challenging fight for the Brazilian.
However, early in the final round as Dariush pressed towards him and swooped for a takedown, Barboza perfectly timed a flying knee to the head that knocked his opponent out.
Michael Prazeres also claimed a performance bonus after he put away Josh Burkman early with a north-south choke in less than two minutes.
The final ‘Performance Of The Night’ award went to the debuting Paulo Henrique Costa who ran through Garreth McLellan in just 77 seconds, first hurting him with a body kick, then unleashing a barrage of blows that sunk his opponent to the mat for the TKO victory.
