Following last night’s UFC Fight Night 176 event in Las Vegas the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
With only seven fights to choose from for a card that was ravaged at the last minute by Covid-19 cancellations, on this occasion the UFC opted to go with four ‘Performance Of The Night’ awards.
That included co-main event winner Ovince Saint Preux, who had utilized leg kicks almost exclusively for a significant portion of his fight with Alonzo Menifield. However, he then caught his opponent off-guard in the second round by blasting him with a counter left hook as he came surging forward, sending Menifield falling face-first onto the canvas for the KO victory.
Due to his action-packed style Michel Pereira is always a good bet to win a bonus, though on this occasions it wasn’t his acrobatic striking that helped him get a performance award, but rather leaving it until the final round to suddenly suplex Zelim Imadaev to the mat and then quickly submit him with a rear-naked choke.
Andre Muniz secured his performance bonus with a first round submission of Bartosz Fabinski, first threatening with a guillotine choke as he was taken down, but then fishing for a triangle choke, before changing up to an armbar that quickly led to a tap-out.
Rounding up the bonus winners was Brian Kelleher, who made last-minute replacement Ray Rodriguez pay for rushing in for an early takedown with his neck exposed as he sank in his go-to guillotine choke submission that would end the fight after just 39 seconds.
