Wednesday night saw both a live UFC ‘Fight Card’ and a brand new episode oF TUF 18 on FOX Sports 1 and the TV ratings are now in for both shows.
‘UFC Fight Night 29: Shields Vs Maia’ drew an average of 638,000 viewers, up 99,000 viewers from ‘UFN 28: Teixeira Vs Bader’ last month.
It’s still some way of the two events prior to that on the fledgling channel, but to be fair, on paper this never looked like being a card that was going to be a big ratings draw.
For one thing the event flew under the radar with very little promotion, while the line-up had a number of interesting stylistic match-up’s for one reason or another, but fell some way short of being a ‘must-see’ card.
Nevertheless, while the nights action was somewhat of a mixed bag, there were enough moments to make it worthwhile viewing for those who did tune in, including Dong Hyun Kim’s shock KO victory over Erick Silva and Rousimar Palhares’ highly controversial submission finish against Mike Pierce.
Immediately following the event was the sixth episode of TUF 18 and it pulled in 725,000 viewers.
That’s up 85,000 viewers from the previous week, but ranks as only fourth out of the six episodes so far this season which will surely be a bit of a disappointment given the live event lead-in.
