UFC Fight Night 50 Bonus Awards

Following last night’s UFC Fight Night 50 event in Conneticut the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.

Picking up ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the back-and-forth battle between Joe Lauzon and Michael Chiesa that kicked off the main card of the show.

Lauzon deserves a special mention here as this latest bonus means that he’s won more of them than any other fighter in UFC history – 13 to be exact. A terrific achievement, so hats off to him for that.

Meanwhile, earning a ‘Performance Of The Night’ award was main event star Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza who looked in control of his fight with Gegard Mousasi from start to finish before producing a third round submission finish.

Also scooping up a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus was Ben Rothwell who earned a first round TKO stoppage against Alistair Overeem after rocking him on the feet on a couple of occasions – a feat that’s even impressive when ‘Big Ben’ revealed post-fight that he suspected that one of his arms had broken blocking a kick earlier in the fight (a hospital visit later discovered that wasn’t the case).

Over the years I've watched the UFC develop into the powerhouse it is today, organizations like PRIDE, Strikeforce and WEC rise and fall, and Bellator emerge as a new force on the MMA landscape. Throughout it all I've remained captivated by the sport and I'm excited to cover what comes next here on MMA Insight.
