Following last night’s mid-week UFC Fight Night 71 event in San Diego, California the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 fighter bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors on this occasion was a full-blooded striking battle between Alan Jouban and Matt Dwyer which opened up the main card in entertaining fashion and included one of the most memorable moments of the night when Jouban landed a clean cartwheel kick to Dwyer’s head in the closing stages of the second round.
Meanwhile, a well deserved ‘Performance Of The Night’ award went to headlining star Frank Mir who threw caution to the wind and came out with all guns blazing against Todd Duffee, leading to one of the most devastating KO’s of the year so far as he connected with a flush left hook that resulted in his opponent falling face first to the mat.
Scooping up the evening’s other ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus was Tony Ferguson who really stood out with an extremely assured yet violent display of mixed martial arts against Josh Thomson, with his excellent use of elbow strikes in particular doing a lot of damage, leaving ‘The Punk’ covered in blood from several cuts to his face.
