Following last night’s UFC Fight Night 77 event in Brazil the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
On this occasion there were was no ‘Fight Of The Night’ awards, with four performance bonuses being handed out instead and picking up one of them was main event Vitor Belfort who proved he’s still a dangerous man in the post-TRT era with another first round head kick KO finish against Dan Henderson in their trilogy fight.
Thomas Almeida also earned a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus for one of the most vicious KO’s of the year late in the first round, with a perfect right hand crumpling Nicholas Birchak to the mat in a fashion reminiscent of Lyoto Machida’s highlight reel stoppage against Rashad Evans years ago.
Impressive KO finishes were a welcome recurring theme in the latter stages of the main card last night and Alex Oliveira also got in on the act in the third round of his fight with Piotr Hallmann, landing a flush right hook to the jaw to send his opponent to the canvas.
Finally, Thiago Tavares also scooped up a ‘Performance Of The Night’ award after he shocked Clay Guida with a guillotine choke submission just 39 seconds into their preliminary encounter.
