The UFC have released a new trailer for UFC Fight Night 80 to reflect the fact that Rose Namajunas has now stepped in as a replacement for Joanne Calderwood to fight Paige VanZant in the main event of the evening on December 10th in Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, Calderwood has revealed that a knee injury suffered during wrestling practice is the reason she had to withdraw from the fight.
“Just to let everyone know that I’m okay,” Calderwood wrote on Facebook. “Everything was going great but I hurt my knee during wrestling last week and I haven’t been able to train since and we reckon it’s going to be another week before I can get back to light training which obviously isn’t idea in this stage of my camp. As much as I’m gutted I’m just glad that it’s nothing too serious and that I’m only going to be out for a few weeks hopefully.
I wanted the just strap it up and hit her with it idea, but in this sport things like this happen and I want to make sure I can come back from this little hurdle sensibly and with a vengeance.
Thank you so much for all the messages, well wishes and concerns.”
While Calderwood is disappointed to be missing out on the fight, Namajunas is over the moon that she’s been given such a high profile fight.
“So blessed to be apart of all this greatness!” Namajunas stated on Instagram. “Big things coming up I am super excited to embrace it all again and what better opportunity than headlining against such an exciting opponent @paigevanzantufc during such an awesome weekend for the @UFC Christmas is coming early for everyone don’t miss it on @ufcfightpass.
