Following last night’s UFC On ESPN 9 event in Las Vegas the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was a preliminary card encounter between Tim Elliott and Brandon Royval, which ended with the newcomer Royval securing a second round arm-triangle choke submission after some exciting ground action.
At the post-fight press conference, Dana White also noted that Billy Quarantillo and Spike Carlyle would be ‘taken care of’ after they engaged in a highly competitive, fast paced scrap that led to a narrow split decision victory for Quarantillo and was many people’s choice for Fight Of The Night.
One of two ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonuses went to main event winner Gilbert Burns, who put on his best performance to date in the Octagon as he dominated Tyron Woodley for five rounds, showing off his evolving striking game, takedowns, clinch work and high-level jiu-jitsu during his comprehensive victory.
Also earning a performance bonus was Mackenzie Dern, who managed to get back to winning ways in style courtesy of a first-round kneebar submission against Hannah Cifers on the main card.
