Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza announced his arrival in the UFC tonight with a swift submission victory over Chris Camozzi at ‘UFC On FX 8’ in Brazil.
Camozzi goes upstairs with a head kick early that’s blocked and Souza responds with punches and then works into the clinch looking for a takedown that’s unsuccessful.
Camozzi appears a little wobbled by a strike from Jacare and the Brazilian uses that to secure a takedown. He lands a few shots from half guard then is put back into the full guard where he postures up and continues to throw the ocassional punch.
Then Jacare shows off his undeniable BJJ skills with a very smooth spin into side control. Camozzi tries to get away, but is caught up in an omaplata and then he moves back to side control.
Jacare all over Camozzi now on the mat and moves into the mount for a moment before locking up an arm triangle and shifting to the side to lock it up tight and that quickly chokes out Camozzi with 3.37mins of the first round gone.
Great start to Jacare’s UFC career then and he’ll be assured a big fight against a top contender next time out in the Octagon.
