Brendan Schaub got the better of his fellow TUF 10 heavyweight competitor Matt Mitrione tonight at UFC 165, putting him to sleep in the first round with a d’arce choke submission.
Round One
Cautious start from the two men as they keep their distance. Schaub ventures forward and Mitrione throws a couple of punches at him. Schaub returns fire.
Schaub tries a takedown, but it’s not happening. He tries to rush in again with another and then comes upstairs with punches instead, and the two men appear to clash heads which leaves them both with some blood high to Schaub’s scalp and on Mitrione’s face.
Schaub runs forward with a long flurry of punches that forces Mitrione into reverse gear, but afterwards he just smiles at his opponent. Schaub’s not finished yet though and grabs Mitrione and takes him to the mat.
Mitrione tries to get up and immedaitely take Schaub down, but it doesn’t work out for him at all as Schaub smoothly sinks in a d’arce choke and locks it in tight.
Mitrione gives the referee the thumbs up, but that appears to be bravado more than anything as he looks trapped and indeed just seconds later the referee realizes that Mitrione’s unconscious and calls an end to the fight to the delight of Schaub.
