Long-time UFC star Carlos Condit has announced that he’s retiring from the sport at 37-years-of-age.
Condit had appeared to be on the verge of hanging up his gloves a few years ago after going five fights without a win, but after almost two years out of action, ‘The Natural Born Killer’ returned to the Octagon in 2020.
Things went well at first for Condit as he earned a unanimous decision win against Court McGee and then beat fellow veteran Matt Brown on the scorecards too.
However, he then went up against Max Griffin in July of this year and lost by unanimous decision, getting rocked a couple of times along the way, and that appears to be the last time we’ll see him fight as his management has now confirmed that he’s called time on his career.
Condit fought for almost two decades, during which time he became a defending WEC welterweight champion before moving on to the UFC, where he won the interim 170lb belt via a decision win against Nick Diaz in 2012, the culmination of a five-fight winning streak that had also seen him beat the likes of Jake Ellenberger, Rory MacDonald, Dan Hardy and Dong Hyun Kim.
Condit then went on to fight Georges St-Pierre in a title unification bout, but lost by unanimous decision. That would prove to be a turning point for him as it would be the start of what proved to be eight losses in ten fights, though that did include another title shot against Robbie Lawler, which he lost by split decision.
Condit will be remembered as an all-action fighter who managed to rack up no less than 28 finishes in 32 career victories, picking up five ‘Fight Of The Night’ and two ‘Knockout Of The Night’ awards along the way.
