Volkan Oezdemir is rumored to have been forced out of his upcoming fight with Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua at UFC Fight Night 129 on May 19th in Santiago, Chile.
According to the Combate site, Oezdemir isn’t able to leave the U.S. to compete at this time due to the fact that he is still facing assault charges in relation to a fight outside a bar in Florida last year.
The 28-year-old has fought once in the UFC since the charges were filed, taking on Daniel Cormier for the 205lb title at UFC 220 in January, but that was due to the fact the event was in the United States, with ‘No Time’ suffering a second round TKO loss that night.
So, if the rumors are true then the UFC will now have to seek a new opponent for ‘Shogun,’ who is riding a three-fight winning streak heading into the event, having defeated Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Corey Anderson and most recently Gian Villante.
UFC Fight Night 129 will be headlined by a welterweight clash between Kamara Usman and Santiago Ponzinibbio and will mark the promotion’s first ever visit to Chile.
