With Sean Brady out of his UFC Fight Night 293 headlining fight against Gabriel Bonfim next weekend due to an infected knee issue, the promotion has now drafted in a heavyweight replacement fight to lead the show on short notice.
Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Johnny Walker have agreed to step in on nine days notice to front the card at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas, while Gabriel Bonfim appears to have now dropped out of the line-up altogether.
For the 35-year-old Cortes-Acosta this is a chance to end the year on a better note after having suffered back-to-back unanimous decision defeats against Alexander Volkov and Curtis Blaydes in the past six months.
However, prior to that Cortes-Acosta had been on form with weight wins in his previous nine fights, and as such he’s still ranked No.8 in the heavyweight division.
As for the 34-year-old Walker, he’s won two of his last three fights, but had been KO’d twice in a row before that, and as such he currently resides at No.12 on the heavyweight ladder.
Cortes-Acosta vs. Walker fronts a UFC Fight Night 293 card that will also feature a co-main event between former women’s strawweight title challengers Tatiana Suarez and Virna Jandiroba.
