William Gomis Beats Jaron Errens By Majority Decision At UFC Fight Night 209

William Gomis survived a late submission attempt from Jaron Errens to emerge with a majority decision victory in front of his home fans at UFC Fight Night 209 in Paris.

Round One:

Body kick for Gomis. Feints from Errens. Another kick from Gomis and then a big body punch from Errens.

Inside leg kick from Gomis and then a head kick attempt from Errens that only just missed. Acrobatic spinning attempt from Errens misses. Gomis tries his own flashy strike that misses.

Jumping body kick from Errens. Body kick attempts exchanged. Inside leg kick for Gomis. One-two for Gomis and they clinch up. Gomis able to land a takedown.

Gomis in side control, but Errens gets him back to full guard. He’s able to drop down a few short, grinding elbows to the head while his opponents head is pressed up against the cage.

Errens does a nice job of scrambling to his feet, but Gomis stays clinched up and presses him into the cage.

They break free with Gomis landing a punch and body kick.

Round Two:

left and right hooks from Gomis. Errens clinches up but separates while landing a hook.

Missed punches from Errens. Short punch from Gomis. Gomis steps in and lands some sots that were a bit stifled at that range and then follows up with a body kick.

Right hand for Errens. He throws a head kick that at least partially connected, but Gomis immediately works for a takedown and lands it.

A couple of right hands for Gomis. A lull and then he lands a few more. Gomis tries to land a few more and Errens finds space to stand up and get back to striking range.

Errens pressing forward now. He tries for a head kick but it misses. Gomis looks for a body kick. Low kick for Gomis.

Gomis ducks a punch and goes for another takedown, but this time Errens rolls on top for a moment, but Gomis is quickly able to get back up and walks Errens over to the cage.

Nice judo takedown executed by Errens, but Gomis still manages to end up on top as the round ends.

Round Three:

Superman punch from Gomis and attempts a kick behind it that misses. Nice right hook and a body kick from Gomis.

Another right hook from Gomis as Errens rips to the body. Jumping kick from Gomis. He misses with a spinning body kick.

High body kick from Gomis. inside leg kick from Gomis and a punch on the counter from Errens. Gomis goes into the clinch against the cage.

Knee to the body from Errens. Gomis goes for a takedown and lands it. Errens attempting a guillotine choke but it’s not happening and he lets it go.

Errens attempting to transition on top but Gomis shuts that down. Not too much offense from him on top though. Errens again trying desperately to get something going and he suddenly manages to sink in a triangle choke.

It looks tight and now it’s Gomis who is trying to scramble out. Errens doggedly stays on this attempt though and is trying to also manufacture an armbar at the same time. Gomis staying as calm as he can under the circumstance as he looks to fend off this armbar while surviving the triangle choke.

There’s some tense moments here and then Gomis does manage to break free and settle back on top as the round comes to a close.

Decision:

Errens came close to a late gasp submission there, but he couldn’t find the finish and so it’s Gomis who emerges with a majority decision victory (29-28 x2, 29-29).
