With Joseph Benavidez Injured, Tim Elliott Now Fights Ben Nguyen At UFC Fight Night 110

Joseph Benavidez has pulled out of his fight with Ben Nguyen at UFC Fight Night 110 In Auckland, New Zealand on June 10th after suffering an injury, with Tim Elliott now set to step in as his replacement.

Benavidez first broke the news of his call-off on Twitter yesterday.

“Sad to share that I suffered an injury, will not be fighting June 10th,” Benavidez wrote. “I’ll focus on what I can do and be back. Thank you for the support.”

It’s since emerged that the flyweight No.1 contender has been diagnosed with a torn ACL, so that’s likely to keep him out of action for some time.

With that in mind, TUF 24 winner and recent 125lb title contender Eliott gets the nod instead.

The 30-year-old impressed in his fight with current flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson in December, giving ‘Mighty Mouse’ one of his toughest fights to date, and he’s continued to make his impression felt since with a ‘Fight Of The Night’ victory over Louis Smolka last month.

As for Nguyen, he dropped down from bantamweight to flyweight after joining the UFC in 2015 and has since compiled a 3-1 record in the Octagon.
