WSOF 24 took place last night in Connecticut and we’ve got all the results for you below.
In the main event battle of former UFC veterans, Jon Fitch emerged victorious against Yushin Okami by unanimous decision.
This was a true battle of the grinders and Fitch showed his mastery of that particular style by coming out on top. The first round was even with neither man making much of an impact, but in the two rounds that followed Fitch was able to secure a number of takedowns and offer up spells of control on top, though without much in the way of offense being landed.
In the co-main event Blagoy Ivanov successfully defended his heavyweight title against Derrick Mehmen. He made his striking advantage clear in the opening round landing a number of heavy shots, but it was late in the second that he finally sealed the deal, sending the already bloodied Mehmen reeling across the cage before falling to the mat courtesy of a big left hook.
Earlier one-armed fighter Nick Newell did just enough to earn a unanimous decision victory over Tom Marcellino in a close encounter and then shocked everyone by announcing his retirement at the age of 29, bowing out with a 4-1 career record.
Matt Hamill came out of retirement again to make his WSOF debut, but didn’t last long against Vinny Magalhaes who early in the opening round was caught by an uppercut and bundled to the mat, but then seized on a knee-bar submission and forced the tap with just 68 seconds on the clock.
Opening up the main card, Magomed Bibulatov became WSOF’s flyweight champion after a five round shut-out against Donavon Frelow.
