Bellator 179 took place last night in London, England and we’ve got all the results for you below.
In the main event of the evening, former UFC star Rory MacDonald made a successful start to his time in Bellator with a dominat win over Paul Daley.
MacDonald took advantage of the fact that there was a vast gulf in skill between the two on the mat by quickly taking Daley down and then gradually chipping away at him with ground and pound in the opening five minute period.
There was more of the same in the second round as MacDonald again took Daley down, moved to side control and then took his back as the Brit tried to get to his feet and sunk in the fight-ending rear-naked choke.
Meanwhile, in a co-main event battle of the Brits, Linton Vassell also used his superior ground game to overcome former light-heavyweight champion Liam McGeary.
McGeary started each round eager to impose his striking game on his opponent, but in all three rounds Vassell was able to pick his moment to land key takedowns and was able to control him from there.
In the third round, Vassell was able to achieve full mount and then sunk in an arm-triangle choke at the mid-way point to force the tapout.
Earlier, Cheick Kongo emerged with an underwhelming split decision win over Augusto Sakai after three rounds of very little action other than an occasional takedown from the Frenchman and plenty of clinchwork against the cage.
Alex Lohore and Dan Edwards battled for submission on the minute on the opening round, but in the end it was a right hand from Lohore early in the second that would set him on his way to a TKO victory.
Opening up the main card, the late Kimbo Slice’s son Kevin Ferguson Jr claimed his first win as a professional by way of TKO against DJ Griffin.
Ferguson Jr was able to drop Griffin with a left hook in the opening round and then followed up with big hammerfist strikes to secure the victory.
