The UFC have managed to rustle up a replacement for Matt Brown against Carlos Condit at UFC On FOX 29 in Arizona on April 14th after ‘The Immortal’ pulled out due to a knee injury.
Stepping in for him will be Brazil’s Alex ‘Cowboy’ Oliveira, who takes the fight on less than two weeks notice.
The 30-year-old was last seen in the Octagon back in December, where he suffered a TKO loss to Yancy Medeiros in what would prove to be the ‘Fight Of The Night’ at UFC 218.
Oliveira had gone five fights without defeat before that, notching up wins over the likes of Will Brooks, Tim Means and Ryan LaFlare.
As for the 33-year-old Condit, despite still being a highly regarded fighter in the welterweight ranks, he’s actually only won two of his last eight fights in the Octagon and is currently on a three-fight losing skid against Robbie Lawler, Demian Maia and most recently Neil Magny.
That form has seen him slide as low as No.12 on the official UFC welterweight rankings, so he’ll see this fight as a must-win to prove he’s still a formidable force at 170lbs in the present day.
With Oliveira Vs Condit now official, UFC On FOX 29 proceeds with a card that will be headlined by a lightweight encounter between Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier.
