Angela Magana Wakes Up From Coma After Spinal Surgery Complications

Former UFC fighter Angela Magana has woken up after spending several days in a coma following complications arising from spinal surgery earlier this week.

“NOTE: Angela is awake very drowsy making jokes like herself,” Magana’s coach Gabriel Lamastus wrote on Twitter. “Shes made a couple videos when she is more coherent she can post. She wants to thank everyone who has wished her well. PS -Angela is blocked on facebook she posted about a man who molested her that goes against rules

Lamastus also provided MMAJunkie with more details.

“Angela is responding to the treatment and is waking up!!!,” Lamastus said. “We are over joyed (sic). She has been in and out of it. This started happening this morning.”

Magana had initially gone into hospital on Monday to have a nerve block after suffering a herniated disc in training, but it didn’t work as intended and she was then diagnosed with a far more serious condition known as cauda equina syndrome, which required her to have emergency surgery on Tuesday.

However, after the operation Magana remained unresponsive for the next two days, with complications resulting from the anaesthesia being pinpointed as the likely cause.

Luckily the 35-year-old now appears to be responding to treatment and will hopefully be able to get back to 100% in the coming days.
