Bellator 279 Results

Bellator 279 took place last night and we’ve got all the results for you below.

In the main event of the evening Cris Cyborg successfully defended her featherweight title with a unanimous decision win over Arlene Blencowe, after having previously one their original outing back in 2020 via a second round rear-naked choke submission.

On this occasion the fight went the distance though, largely thanks to Blencowe’s durability as she ate a lot of big strikes over the course of the 25-minute encounter. The fight looked like it might end in the first round as Cyborg dropped her opponent with a right hand, but an illegal knee to the head forced a stoppage and the champ was deducted a point.

Cyborg would continue to boss the action for the remainder of the fight, leaving Blencowe bloodied and swollen from her heavy punches and kicks, but there was no quit in her and took the bout to the scorecards, where the champion emerged with a convincing victory even with the deducted point factored in (49-45 x3).

In the co-main event, interim bantamweight champion Raufeon Stots extended his unbeaten Bellator run to six fights with a third round KO stoppage of Juan Archuleta, flooring him with a head kick before sealing the deal with heavy elbows on top.

Earlier on the main card a couple of high-profile fighters suffered defeats, with former champion Ilima-Lei Macfarlane suffering a convincing unanimous decision loss to Justine Kish (30-27, 29-28 x2), while Kyoji Horiguchi suffered his second loss in a row since joining Bellator late last year with a unanimous decision defeat against Patchy Mix (48-47 x3).

Another former UFC fighter Yancy Medeiros made a successful Bellator debut however, beating Emmanuel Sanchez with a clean sweep on the scorecards (30-27 x3).
