Believes it or not, BJ Penn is continuing to resist the urge to retire and is now scheduled to fight Dennis Siver at UFC Fight Night 112 in Oklahoma on June 25th.
Penn had stepped back into the Octagon for the first time in two-and-a-half years against Yair Rodriguez back in January and found himself being handed a one-sided beatdown that ended early in the second round via a front kick to the face followed by punches.
Rodriguez hadn’t been the legendary fighters originally intended opponent, however, as a year earlier Penn had in fact been lined up to face Siver at UFC 199, before an injury nixed the bout.
That match-up made a lot more sense for the 38-year-old Penn than a young, rising star like Rodriguez, as Siver is also 38 and has been out of action for a considerable period of time as his career starts to wind down.
Siver’s last two fights came in the first half of 2015, losing to both Conor McGregor and then Tatsuya Kawajiri, leaving him with just one win in his past five fights.
That still pales in comparison to Penn’s painful downward decline that has now spanned over a seven period in which he’s only emerged victorious once in his last eight fights.
