Former UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno’s next fight will be against another leading contender Amir Albazi in the main event of UFC Fight Night 246 in Edmonton, Canada on November 2nd.

A fight between Erin Blanchfield and Rose Namajunas had originally been targeted as the headline attraction for the event, but that will now serve as the co-main event instead, with Moreno vs. Albazi being shifted from a main-eventing UFC Fight Night 247 at the UFC’s own Apex facility in Las Vegas a week later, to fronting this more high-profile card in front of a packed arena of fans instead.

The 30-year-old Moreno finds himself in the unusual position of having lost his last two fights in a row, having lost the 125lb title to Alexandre Pantoja by split decision in July of last year, followed by another split decision defeat against Brandon Royval back in February.

Nevertheless the star still remains ranked No.2 in the division thanks to his previous accomplishments, which includes being a two-time champion of the weight class, and holding wins over the likes of Deiveson Figueiredo (x2), Kai Kara-France (x2) and a prior win over Brandon Royval from 2020.

Now Moreno will take on the also 30-year-old Albazi, who is just one spot below him in the rankings at No.3 after going on a five-fight winning streak since joining the UFC that takes his overall career record to 17-1.

His last win came in June of last year when he edged a five-round split-decision win over Kai Kara-France, but his push towards title contention then suffered a blow due to a neck injury that kept him out of action for an extended period of time.

Moreno vs. Albazi front a UFC Fight Night 246 event that, in addition to the previously mentioned co-main event between Blanchfield and Namajunas will also include Derrick Lewis vs. Jhonata Diniz, Pedro Munhoz vs. Aiemann Zahabi and Mike Mallot vs. Trevin Giles.
