Cain Velasquez Takes Down Brock Lesnar At WWE Smackdown Debut On FOX

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez made a surprise appearance last night on the FOX debut of WWE Smackdown opposite his old rival Brock Lesnar.

Lesnar had just finished WWE champion Kofi Kingston with his signature F5 move in just 7 seconds when Velasquez made his entrance from backstage alongside Ray Mysterio.

Velasquez, who won the UFC heavyweight title by defeating Lesnar back in 2010 and had recently been showing off his wrestling skills in Lucha Libre events, then made his way to the ring and proceeded to take down Lesnar and ground and pound him.

Lesnar got up and fled the ring before then heading backstage, setting up a major WWE-meets-MMA match-up for the near future.

The expectation is that the wrestling version of Lesnar vs. Velasquez will now take place either at a big upcoming show in Saudi Arabia on October 31st or at next year’s Wrestlemania event.

Unfortunately for MMA fans, what this means is that Velasquez’s MMA career may be over, for the time being at least, as a report from MMAJunkie has indicated that he intends to withdraw from NSAC’s drug-testing program.

Injury woes have already ravaged many good years from the 37-year-old’s Velasquez’s time in MMA, and his only fight in the last three years against Francis Ngannou in February of this year ended in disappointment with a 26 second TKO loss.
