Cain Velasquez’s Coach Reveals Back Surgery Wasn’t Successful

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has been plagued with injuries throughout his career that has resulted in him fighting just twice in the past four years, and it doesn’t sound as if that’s a situation that’s going to be rectified any time soon.

It’s now been over a year since Velasquez last fought due to a back injury, but according to his long-time coach, Javier Mendez, the star hasn’t even got back to training yet due to an unsuccessful operation.

“The surgery has not gone the way it was supposed to have gone,” Mendez told Starsport. “So, we’ll see with time. But Cain has been spending time with his family and doing other things. He comes in here once in a while.”

That doesn’t sound good, but Mendez insists that the now 35-year-old fighter hasn’t lost his hunger to get back into the Octagon at some point.

“He’s not lost the desire to fight, he’s just waiting for some time, spending time with the family and doing other things he loves.

“He loves doing acting, movies and all that type of stuff. So anything involving the film industry, he loves that stuff. And anything in the car industry he loves.

“But the number one thing is his family. So those are the things he’s focused on now. When his body is 100-percent healthy and his mind will be intact with that healthiness, then he’ll be ready to fight.”
