A featherweight fight between Calvin Kattar and Kyle Nelson has been booked for UFC Fight Night 243 on September 7th at the Apex facility in Las Vegas.
It’s an important fight for the 36-year-old Kattar given that he’s currently on a three-fight losing slump over the past couple of years.
Admittedly Kattar’s level of opposition during that time has been consistently high, leading to a split-decision loss against Josh Emmett, followed by a TKO defeat to Arnold Allen due to suffering an injury, and then most recently losing out by unanimous decision to former bantamweight champ Aljamain Sterling at UFC 300.
Nevertheless, Kattar still holds the No.9 spot on the 145lb ladder as he now prepares to take on the 33-year-old nelson, who not so long ago was winless in his last three fights as well, but has done well to turn that around with a trio of wins in the past 12 months.
That includes back-to-back decision wins over Blake Bilder and Fernando Padilla, followed by a TKO victory over Bill Algeo in March.
Kattar vs. Nelson is currently the only fight so far confirmed for the UFC Fight Night 243 event.
