Ciryl Gane will return to his native France to fight Sergey Spivak in the main event of UFC On ESPN 51 on September 2nd.
Gane also fronted a show in Paris in September of last year, which saw him KO Tai Tuivasa in the third round to get back to winning ways after having lost in his title fight against former teammate Francis Ngannou at the start of that year.
The win over Tuivasa would pave the way for another title opportunity, this time against Jon Jones after Ngannou vacated the belt and left the promotion earlier this year, but it did not go well for the Frenchman, who was submitted by the returning ‘Bones’ in the opening round.
So now the still No.1 ranked contender Gane will seek a return to winning ways against the 8th placed Spivak, who has enjoyed a trio of wins in the span of a little over a year, starting with TKO finishes of Greg Hardy and Augusto Sakai, followed by a first round submission finish of Derrick Lewis back in February.
The heavyweight clash between Gane vs. Spivak is currently the only fight attached to the UFC’s second ever show in France and again will take place at the Accor Arena.
