Ciryl Gane’s Apartment Was Robbed While He Was At UFC: Paris

Everything went perfectly for Ciryl Gane in the Octagon at UFC Fight Night 226 in Paris this past weekend, earning a 2nd round TKO finish against Sergey Spivak, but unfortunately it’s since emerged that the heavyweight star’s apartment was robbed while he was at the event.

According to French outlet Le Parisien, when police were called to the fighter’s apartment on Sunday morning they discovered that his front door had been forced open and thieves had made of with 150,000 euros in valuables, including a Rolex watch and jewellery.

A source close to the investigation told Le Parisien that an investigation was underway to identify the thieves, with possibilities under consideration including that the robbers may have conducted reconnaissance prior to the burglary, and that someone within Gane’s entourage could have informed the robbers about his schedule.

Gane is not the first high-profile sporting star in France to have been targeted in such a manner, though more commonly it’s been soccer stars who have fallen victim to being burgled while they are attending matches.

The blow of having been robbed will hopefully have been softened slightly by the fact that Gane not only won his fight convincingly, but also earned an extra $50,000 ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus too.

The victory leaves him as the No.2 contender at heavyweight, and so he’s likely to be a keen observer when current champion Jon Jones fights Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 in November, though a potential title-eliminator against either Sergei Pavlovich or Tom Aspinall may well also be in the UFC’s thoughts for him next.
