Conor McGregor has thrown a major curveball by suggesting that he’s in discussions to fight Logan Paul in an exhibition boxing match in India next year.
“The rumors of a bout with topurio are false,” McGregor wrote on X. “I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India. I have agreed. I will then seek my return to the Octagon.”
Is this just another outlandish claim from McGregor that will quickly be shot down?
Perhaps not according to MMA insider Ariel Helwani.
“Now you maybe asking yourself, ‘Okay how is this possible? How could Logan Paul compete against Conor McGregor in a boxing match?'” Helwani said on the latest episode of ‘The Ariel Helwani Show’. “Logan Paul is a WWE competitor… Conor McGregor is a UFC fighter. Well then you quickly come to the realization that the parent company of WWE and UFC is TKO. So they are all under the same umbrella. Very easy to get done.”
And adding fuel to the fire, following last weekend’s end-of-year UFC On ESPN 63 event, Dana White had teased that he had something major in the works for next year, adding that it was something that had only very recently materialized.
“I’ve got something in the works right now. I’ll drive you f*ckers crazy, all you guys will be running around,” White said at the post-fight presser. “I’ve got something in the works that you will never f*cking see coming for 2025, that literally started to come together last night.”
MMAJunkie have subsequently added more information that fits that timeline by stating a source informed them White was informed of the potential McGregor vs. Paul match-up on Friday.
Meanwhile, Logan Paul’s brother Jake has also spoken out about the situation from his perspective, suggesting that he too believes the fight is now in the works.
“Now it all makes sense why Conor Mcgregor & his management team have been desperately trying to get MVP to negotiate for a fight between us,” Paul wrote on X. “As we told them them privately & I’m now saying it publicly…the only way we’re willing to explore me vs Conor in a pro boxing / mma fight is if Dana White / UFC are at the table directly or make it clear they are ok with discussions. Conor is washed. Needs the Paul’s. Logan by however he wants.”
As for Logan Paul, he hasn’t spoken out about the rumors, but he did repost McGregor’s original statement, along with a mock-up poster of the stars.
While it’s Jake Paul that’s become best known for his pro-boxing exploits, Logan Paul is no stranger to high-profile exhibition bouts – most notable a 2021 boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr, which went the full eight rounds, with no winner being declared to it’s exhibition status.
As with that fight, this one would make little sense, but much like this years Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson farce that likely wouldn’t stop it from being a huge spectacle that will draw casual fans in like a moth to a flame.
