Conor McGregor has finally made a $500,000 donation to a charity organization based in Lafayett, Louisiana, but it’s not Dustin Poirier’s ‘Good Fight Foundation’ who will receive the money.
Instead McGregor appears to have given the money to the ‘Boys & Girls Club Of Acadiana’ instead.
“Boys & Girls Clubs of Acadiana received an unexpected call last week and are humbled to share that Conor McGregor is donating $500,000 to impact youth in South Louisiana by supporting our upcoming 2021 Summer Camp and ongoing health and recreation activities in our 6 Club sites,” the club wrote on Facebook.
“This investment is a gamechanger! Thank you, Conor, for helping to ensure that our kids have what they need to grow and thrive this summer!”
This is clearly a defiant gesture by McGregor to get one-up on his rival ahead of their upcoming trilogy fight in July, after Poirier publicly called out the Irish superstar for not having paid his charity yet, despite having vowed to do so prior to their second bout back in January, which ‘The Diamond’ won by TKO.
McGregor retaliated at the time by claiming that Poirier’s charity had failed to provide him a proper business plan regarding how they intended to spend the money, although Poirier claimed that their attempts to communicate with his people had fallen on deaf ears.
McGregor then threatened to call off the trilogy fight, which is likely to be very lucrative for Poirier, and fight someone else instead.
McGregor has since changed his mind on that and the fight is now official, but it’s clear that the bad blood that’s emerged between them is not going away, and while that will certainly add a lot of spice to their upcoming fight, it’s unfortunate that charities became caught up in the thick of their rivarly.
