Conor McGregor’s Punishment Reduced For Bottle-Throwing Incident

Conor McGregor has successfully managed to get his punishment reduced by the Nevada State Athletic Commission in relation to a bottle-throwing incident at a UFC 202 press conference in Las Vegas in August of last year.

NSAC originally handed ‘The Notorious’ a $75,000 suspension in addition to 50 hours of community service as punishment for the fracas at the Copperfield Theater, but after a re-hearing he will now only be required to fork out $25,000 and do 25 hours of community service.

The infamous incident was initially sparked off by his opponent Nate Diaz, who decided to leave mid-way through the presser, heading for the exit via an upstairs balcony along with his entourage.

Words were exchanged between the two fighters and then a bottle was thrown down at McGregor from the balcony, at which point he responded by throwing a bottle of his own, then a can of ‘Monster Energy’ drink for good measure.

The altercation may have landed both fighters in trouble, but it did wonders for promoting their pay-per-view showdown just a few days later, with UFC 202 believed to have delivered in the region of 1.65 million buys, making it the best-selling event in UFC history.

After believing that he’d been harshly treated by NSAC with regards to his initial punishment, McGregor had threatened to never fight in the state again, and with a money-spinning mega-fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr now in the works, it’s little wonder that the Commission in the fight capital of the world is now trying to mend fences with the UFC superstar.
