Curtis Blaydes vs. Alexander Volkov Targeted For UFC Fight Night 177

A heavyweight fight between Curtis Blaydes and Alexander Volkov is reported to be in the works for UFC Fight Night 177 in Saskatoon, Canada on June 20th.

According to ESPN the fight is being targeted as the headliner for the event and will see Blaydes looking to continue the momentum he’s gained from winning his past three fights in a row over the course of the past 12 months.

That run began with a decision victory over Justin Willis, before TKO’ing Shamil Abdurakhimov and then racking up one of his biggest wins to date in January when he TKO’d former champion Junior dos Santos.

That form has helped him rise to No.3 in the heavyweight rankings heading into this fight against Volkov, who is currently positioned at No.7.

Volkov’s form has largely speaking been very good too, having won five of his six fights in the Octagon to date.

The only bump in the road so far has been a last-gasp knockout loss to Derrick Lewis in 2018 during a fight that he had been dominating up to that point.

Apart from that Volkov has racked up some big wins during his UFC run, including TKO’ing both Fabricio Werdum and Stefan Struve along with decision victories against the likes of Roy Nelson and Greg Hardy.

Blaydes vs. Volkov is so far the only major bout being earmarked for the event, which will be the UFC’s first visit to Saskatoon in almost five years.
