Cynthia Calvillo Submits Amanda Cooper Quickly At UFC 209

Cynthia Calvillo made an immediate impression in her Octagon debut tonight at UFC 209, tapping out Amanda Cooper on the main card in less than a round.

Round One:

Couple of nice early punches from Calvillo as they exchange at cloes range. Cooper with a right hand that connects. Leg kick for Calvillo.

Calvillo steps into a nice leg kick behind a couple of punches. Cooper with another right hand. Head kick attempt from Cooper, but Calvillo catches it and takes her to the mat.

Calvillo moving to improve her position, but it’s not long before Cooper is able to get back up. Cooper barreling into her own takedown, but Calvillo is able to roll on top and continues to show slick ground work as he she takes her opponent’s back.

Calvillo sinks in a rear-naked choke and it’s in tight. Cooper fights hard to escape, but Calvillo stays on it as she flattens her out and forces the tap. Great work from the newcomer as she earns her first win in the octagon just 3.19mins into the first round.

no signs of Octagon jitters from this promising new addition to the strawweight division and it’ll be interesting to watch how the 29-year-old progresses from here.
