Dan Hooker made a big statement at UFC 243 on Saturday night with a convincing unanimous decision victory over Al Iaquinta and then immediately called out the man he wants to be his next opponent.
“I’m gonna announce my next fight,” Hooker said during his post-fight interview. “Dustin Poirier, I’m going to smash your face in. Meet me in New Zealand, 2020. I’m gonna end you.”
Hooker has now won 7 of his last 8 UFC fights and is certainly entitled to another big fight next time out, but it seems that recent title contender Poirier isn’t interested.
“I’m fighting the Irishman next,” Poirier responded to Hooker. “You’re close but not yet buddy keep punching @danthehangman.”
It seems that Poirier’s suggestion that he’s fighting Conor McGregor is more in hope than expectation at this stage, but he went on to make it clear he’s looking for another blockbuster fight, while also playing matchmaker for Hooker.
“Dan can fight Cowboy. I’m chilling out until something really excites me. Working on my craft.”
