Dana White Abruptly Shuts Down Talk Of McGregor vs. Diaz At UFC 306

Conor McGregor recently stated that he wants to fight Nate Diaz at UFC 306, which will take place at the Sphere in Las Vegas on September 14th to celebrate Mexican Independence Day, but White has now ruled that out of the equation.

“I’m looking for Mexican’s at the Sphere on Mexican Independence Day,” White told reporters with a chuckle when asked for a response to McGregor’s statement.

“Oh, ok,” the completely disinterested UFC CEO said after the reporter suggested that Diaz, who was born in Stockton but has a Mexican father, would fit the bill.

And it made no difference to his decision on whether he’d be interested in putting on McGregor vs Diaz at UFC 306.

“Yeah, I’m not doing that fight,” White said bluntly.

Though McGregor had also said he still wants to fight Michael Chandler in June as well, White had previously also shot down that idea, suggesting that he didn’t expect to see McGregor back until the Fall season at the earliest.

Meanwhile, McGregor surprised some fans after he praised one of his old foes Dustin Poirier after his win over Benoit Saint Denis in the co-main event of UFC 299 on Saturday night.

“Great fight out of them French boys tonight! Toutes nos félicitation @DustinPoirier @BenoitSt_Deni @EmmanuelMacron,” McGregor wrote.

However, it seems there’s still no love lost between them as far as Poirier is concerned.

“Yeah?” Poirier said when told of McGregor’s comment at the post-fight presser. “Well he felt that right hook too.”
