Reports earlier this week suggested that Nate Diaz may be on the verge of a return to the Octagon at UFC 227 in August, but now Dana white has suggested that may be wishful thinking.
“@danawhite didn’t seem to think much of the news about UFC negotiating a fight with Nate Diaz,” Yahoo! Sports Kevin Iole wrote on Twitter after speaking with the UFC president. “‘We offer him a fight every 3 or 4 months and have ever since his last fight. Nothing is going on.’”
If Diaz had been signed up for UFC 227 it would have been two years since his last appearance in the Octagon by the time fight night came around.
Of course his last fight was a money-spinning rematch with Conor McGregor that saw him narrowly lose out by way of a majority decision verdict in his rival’s favor, but Diaz made millions of dollars in the process and as such hasn’t been in a hurry to return since.
Diaz’s long-time friend and training partner Jake Shields recently claimed that Diaz is interested in fighting again, but it’s going to take a big name opponent and a large amount of money to seal the deal to lure him back into the cage.
