UFC President Dana White still appears to believe that a boxing mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Conor McGregor is going to happen, and he’s not ruling out the chance that ‘The Notorious’ could emerge victorious against the odds if it does.
Hey, the great thing about fights is you never know who’s going to win,” White told X17 Online. “Believe me, there’s a lot of weekends we put on fights and I think people aren’t going to win and they do. It’s the crazy thing about the fight business. I mean if it was guaranteed that Floyd was going to win this fight, why would you pay for it?
“There’s no guarantees.”
“Conor’s 27, Floyd’s 40. Conor’s the bigger, stronger guy. He’s got knockout power. It’s an interesting fight.”
As for when the fight might happen, the current speculation is that September may be being targeted, but all White would say was, “probably not for a while, but it will happen. There’s too much money involved to not happen.”
Meanwhile, Mayweather is still looking to get the deal signed, but has already been speculating on where the fight might take place, and it’s not an obvious choice.
“Firstly we need to agree a fight and then after we can agree on a place,” Mayweather told Russian channel RT. “If somehow it turns out the fight will be in Moscow, then I have no problem. If I had to choose now then I would choose Moscow.”
