There’s been increasing speculation this year that former UFC heavyweight champion and current WWE superstar Brock Lesnar will return to the Octagon this year, and Dana White has now confirmed that is the plan.
“Yeah, Brock Lesnar’s coming back,” White claimed on the UFC Tonight show this week. “I don’t know when, but yes he is.”
lesnar’s current deal with the WWE is due to expire in a few months time, but whats not clear at this stage is whether the 40-year-old plans to ditch his pro-wrestling gig and move back full time to the UFC or if he intends to sign a new deal with WWE that would also enable him to have a fight or two in the Octagon.
The last time Lesnar fought in the UFC was at UFC 200 in July of 2016, defeating Mark Hunt by unanimous decision in a one-off fight while still under contract with the WWE.
However, though he described it as, “the most fun I’ve had in years,” the shine was taken of Lesnar’s win when it emerged that he’d failed a USADA drug test and was subsequently suspended for a year.
Given that Lesnar would later claim to now be retired from the sport, he may still have to complete the remainder of his suspension before he would even be allowed to compete again in the Octagon.
