Dana White’s Contender Series 7 Episode 9

Five fighters were signed to the UFC after last night’s Contender Series 7 Episode 9 event in Las Vegas.

Rodolfo Bellato had lost in his first Contender Series appearance, but he made amends for that last night as he unleashed a savage onslaught of knees, punches and elbows from the clinch against Murtaza Talha, leading to a late 2nd round TKO finish.

Victor Hugo was hell-bent on getting a leg-lock submission against Eduardo Tortes Caut, and eventually got on mid-way through the second round when he caught his opponent in a nasty kneebar that forced the tapout.

Magomed Gadzhiyasulov earned his UFC contract with his assured striking across 15 minutes of fighting against Daniel Medina to win a clean sweep on the scorecards.

And in the opening fight of the evening Mauricio Ruffy was able to make effective use of leg kicks against Raimond Magomedaliev that paid off later in the fight as his opponent started to slow down, enabling him to turn up the heat in the closing stages of the final round, managing to get to his opponents back on the mat and unleash ground-and-pound for a TKO stoppage just 15 seconds before the end. Despite his loss the UFC brass still saw enough potential in Magomedaliev to give him a contract along with Ruffy.
