Darren Till has suffered an undisclosed injury that has forced him out of his co-main event with Jack Hermansson at UFC Fight Night 208 on July 23rd in London, England.
The loss of Till is a big blow for the card given that he’s one of the UK’s best-known stars, though he’s only picked up one win from his last five fights in the Octagon.
UFC officials have quickly moved to replace Till, with Chris Curtis now having been drafted in to fight Hermansson instead.
Curtis is only a couple of weeks removed from his last fight, a unanimous decision win over Rodolfo Vieira.
That was ‘The Action Man’s’ third win in a row since joining the UFC last year, having also KO’d Phil Hawes and TKO’d Brendan Allen.
This is a big opportunity for Curtis as he’s currently unranked at middleweight, while Hermansson resides at the No.8 spot.
Having said that, Hermansson has been experiencing mixed results over the past few years, going 2-3 in his last five fights, with victories over Kelvin Gastelum and Edmen Shahbazyan being sandwiched in amongst losses to Jared Cannonier, Marvin Vettori and most recently Sean Strickland.
Despite the loss of Till, there’s still a number of other well-known UK fighters still featuring on the UFC’s second trip to London this year, with rising heavyweight star Tom Aspinall headlining the show against Curtis Blaydes, while Paddy Pimblett fights Jordan Leavitt, Molly McCann squares up to Hannah Goldy and Paul Craig battles Volkan Oezdemir.
Throw in the return of Alexander Gustafsson against Nikita Krylov and it’s still a solid card for a Fight Night show.
