Diego Sanchez Vs Michael Chiesa Targeted For UFC 239

A welterweight fight between Diego Sanchez and Michael Chiesa has been targeted for UFC 239 on July 6th during International Fight Week in Las Vegas.

Sanchez is currently on a two-fight winning streak at 170lbs, having defeated Craig White by unanimous decision in September of last year and then followed that up with a convincing second round TKO victory over Mickey Gall last month.

However, prior to that Sanchez had suffered a KO Loss against Al Iaquinta at lightweight and then after moving up to welterweight had also been knocked out by Matt Brown.

His next challenge comes against another former lightweight fighter in Chiesa, who made his welterweight debut last time out and made an immediate impact by submitting Carlos Condit with a kimura.

That helped wipe the memory of having lost back-to-back fights at lightweight beforehand, with both Kevin Lee and Anthony Pettis having submitted him.

Sanchez Vs Chiesa joins a star-studded UFC 239 line-up that is set to be headlined by a light-heavyweight ttle fight between Jon Jones and Thiago Santos, with Amanda Nunes defending her bantamweight belt against Holly Holm in the co-main event, Francis Ngannou going up against Junior dos Santos, Luke Rockhold taking on Jan Blachowicz and Ben Askren locking horns with Jorge Masvidal.
